Uluwatu is one of the biggest temple in South of bali. The position of the temple is located on top of 70 meters high cliff. The meaning of Uluwatu is ulu mean edge watu mean cliff or rock projecting to the sea.
Though a small temple was claimed to have existed earlier, the structure was significantly expanded by a Javanese sage, Empu Kuturan in the 11th Century. Another sage from East Java, Dang Hyang Nirartha is credited for constructing the padmasana shrines and it is said that he attained moksha here, an event called ngeluhur (“to go up”) locally. This has resulted in the temple’s epithet Luhur.

This temple is facing straight to the ocean, and the cliff has really good angle for sunset. During your visit on this temple you will see some monkey, and forest. There will be kecak dance show at 06:00 and it is during the sunset time. The kecak dance is about Ramayana history and really nice timing with the sunset.
